From Yoko Ono's 'Grapefruit'

My interpretation of Wood Piece by Yoko Ono (Autumn 1963)

Wood Piece (Autumn 1963)

"Use any Piece of wood.
Make different sounds by using different angles of your hand in hitting it. (a)
Make different sounds by hitting different parts of it. (b)"

 -Yoko Ono. Grapefruit

Take one; On a stool.

The sound stays pretty consistent throughout. Boring.

Take two; On the floor.

The sound changes... a little. Possibly due to gaps underneath the floor? Cross-members? Nails?

Take three; On a banister.

The sound changes drastically. This may be due to the direction of the railing and the metal railing.

Take four; On a simple wooden enclosure.

The sound changes noticeably. Depends on whether I hit the narrow or thick side of the plank and then whether or not there is another plank behind it.

Take five; On a chalkboard frame.

The sound changes minimally. This is probably due to the frame's rigid construction as well as the heavy finish on the wood

Takeaway
Surprisingly, the sounds that a piece of wood makes when tapped on reveals a great deal about it.
